THE IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON THE CHURCH IN AFRICA
        BY  PROFESSOR WILFRED MLAY

A single global system of world trade and socio-economic modernization.
A global power with political and economic interests.
An emerging secular, materialistic world order.
The technological breakthroughs made possible major explorations and subsequent colonization of sub-Saharan Africa.
Missionary founded churches expanded their evangelistic mission and influence.
Phenomenal growth and rapid expansion of the Church to most parts of Africa south of the Sahara  since early 20th century.
Accelerated growth after the transition to African leadership of the churches established by missionaries.
Rapid increase in Bible translations into vernacular languages.
The growth of the Charismatic movement in the region and the growth of mass urban evangelism.
The negative impact of ‘prosperity gospel.’
Globalization has had and will continue to have profound impact on the Church in Africa.
The Church is under constant challenge to understand these processes and to interpret them.
The Church will continue to take advantage of globalization for the advancement of the gospel.
The Church has spread to every corner of sub-Saharan Africa.
The Gospel is becoming readily accessible to more people in their mother tongue.
Promotion of Church unity and church witness.
Church leadership and global influence
The Church is not a human institution or a project of human progress.
The church is called to faithfully live the gospel, in a secular materialistic society without regard to cost.
The church is called to be the prophetic voice in society, speaking truth to power on national issues.
