MILIMA ISHANGAZAYO ILIYOPO AFRIKA

Africa's magnificent mountains:

Seven amazing climbs

Known as the "Roof of Africa," Kilimanjaro is the continent's highest mountain and the continent's most popular destination for trekkers. Peak: 5,895 meters.
There are six routes that lead to the summit, each with varying degrees of difficulty, scenery and success. On the way up, you will travel through five different climatic zones

Kilimanjaro - Tanzania
The Berber people have inhabited the rough terrains of the Atlas Mountains for centuries, preserving their traditions and customs.
The vast mountainous range stretches for more than 2,000 kilometers, from Agadir in Morocco to Tunis in Tunisia. Peak: 4,165 meters.

Lying just south of the equator, Mount Kenya is Africa's second highest mountain after Kilimanjaro. The majestic mountain has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. Peak: 5,199 meters
Mount Meru is a beautiful extinct volcano that's often used by mountaineers for acclimatization before trekking Kilimanjaro. Peak: 4,565 meters.

Climb up the dramatic summits of the Simien Mountains in Ethiopia to experience the spectacular scenery and overwhelming views. Peak: 4,533 meters.
The mountains are also famed for sheltering some of the world's rarest species, including the walia ibex, which is not found anywhere else.

Rising along the Ugandan-Kenyan border, Mount Elgon is an extinct volcano ideal for extended hikes and bird watching. The best times to come here are from June to August and December to March. Peak: 4,321 meters.

Stunning views, crisp air and powerful cascades are all major incentives to hike The Drakensberg, a massive mountainous range dominating the skyline of southern Africa. Peak: 3,475 meters.
"A lot of people like to go and hike there because it's absolutely stunning," says Sunit Sanghrajka, president of U.S.-based travel group Alluring Africa. "The scenery is fantastic."
