Bishop Munib Younan, president of the Lutheran World Federation, will participate in an inter-religious service of prayer for peace to be held at the Vatican on Pentecost Sunday 8 June. He asks for Lutheran and other faith communities around the world to join in praying for peace. Younan is the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, a member church of the World Council of Churches.
The service of prayer follows a recent visit by Pope Francis to Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and Israel. The pope invited Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli president Shimon Peres to join him at the Vatican on 8 June in order to pray for peace together. Both presidents are expected to be present.
